Wellesley Petroleum given clearance to drill offshore Norway
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate has granted Wellesley Petroleum a drilling permit for well 35/11-29 S in production license 248 C in the North Sea offshore Norway. The well will be drilled with COSL’s semisubmersible COSLPromoter rig, with work set to commence in Q2 2024. A Rig Assignment Agreement was signed by the PL 248 C partners, which also include Equinor and Petoro, to drill Toppand East in the first half of 2024.(2024-02-02)
QatarEnergy awards over $6 billion in EPC contracts for offshore Al-Shaheen Oilfield
QatarEnergy has announced the award of the four main Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) contract packages related to the next development phase of the Al-Shaheen oilfield offshore Qatar to increase production by about 100,000 barrels of oil per day.The award is part of Project Ru’ya, the third phase of Al-Shaheen’s development since North Oil Company, a joint venture between QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies, took over the field’s operation in July 2017.Project Ru’ya is set to develop more than 550 million barrels of oil, which will be executed over five years with first oil expected in 2027. It includes drilling more
SLB and Equinor drill most autonomous well section to date offshore Brazil
SLB announced a significant step toward fully autonomous drilling operations at Equinor’s Brazilian Peregrino C platform.By combining SLB digital technologies for surface automation, autonomous on-bottom drilling and directional drilling, 99% of a 2.6-km section was able to be drilled in autonomous control mode. Over a five-well program, a 60% increase in the rate of penetration was achieved, resulting in faster well delivery while reducing cost and carbon emissions.“This is an exciting milestone in the journey toward fully autonomous drilling operations,” said Jesus Lamas, President of Well Construction, SLB. “By leveraging AI and integrating advanced digital workflows, customers are realizing improved
Equinor makes oil discovery near Munin Field in North Sea
Equinor has discovered oil in exploration well 30/12-3 S in the North Sea. The well also included a sidetrack, 30/12-3 A, which was dry. They were drilled about 40 km south of Oseberg, 150 km west of Bergen, by Odfjell Drilling’s Deepsea Stavanger semisubmersible.Equinor drilled the well on behalf of Aker BP, operator of production license 272 B. This is the first well in the production license and is part of the Munin field, which was discovered in 2011.Between 0.15 million and 0.55 million standard cu m of recoverable oil equivalent was proven in well 30/12-3 S.(2024-01-25)
Trendsetter awarded hydraulic well intervention campaign in the GOM
Trendsetter Engineering recently completed two deepwater well stimulation campaigns for major operators in the US Gulf of Mexico (GOM). These campaigns resulted in the successful acid treatments of a combined six wells, ranging in water depth from 6,500 to 7,200 ft.They come on the heels of a contract agreement to deliver hydraulic intervention and technical services via the Subsea Tree Injection Manifold (STIM) for a Hydrate Remediation and Flowline Flush Project in the Gulf of Mexico. The Trendsetter STIM offers a 15,000-psi-rated subsea safety system to provide hydraulic well access for vertical and horizontal tree types in up to 10,000 ft
Optime Subsea secures contract with Equinor for ROCS system offshore UK
Optime Subsea has agreed to a contract with Equinor to deliver its Remote Operated Controls System (ROCS). The collaboration is between Optime, operator Equinor and its partner Ithaca on the Rosebank field, a deepwater field located west of Shetland in the British sector of the North Sea.The ROCS system transforms the installation of production tubing in subsea wells by eliminating the need for umbilicals. This results in significantly safer and faster operations while reducing the need for personnel in the red zone on the rig.Optime has already delivered multiple ROCS systems and observes that this is gradually becoming a new
Aker BP and Deep Ocean complete autonomous inspection trials at Alvheim field in North Sea
Ocean services provider DeepOcean and Aker BP have completed subsea trials with an Autonomous Inspection Drone (AID) at the Aker BP-operated Alvheim field in the central North Sea.“While testing of autonomous technology is exciting on its own, our primary purpose was to find out if subsea inspection can be conducted more cost-efficiently and with better and more precise data quality with this new technology and associated methods. The conclusion is definitely ‘yes’. The development of the AID is an R&D project that is likely to deliver significant value to Aker BP in the coming years,” said Jarle Marius Solland, Operations
